Stolen 20lb Meteorite

What would you do if you stole something said to be worth $40,000
and you seen it on the local news.

I had e-mailed a meteorite collector a picture of a Meteorite that I bought from a man on 12/24/2011
then on 1/02/2012 my wife woke me in the morning to tell me a detective from the University of New Mexico had
called and said I may have in my possesion a meteorite that is stolen.

Wow, what a way to wake up and start the New Year.

The thief told me his father was a rock collector and he had died a few months ago
and he had a meteorite in his collection, and the thief wanted to sell it to me
because he needed money for Christmas presents for his kids and wife.
He said he knew it was worth a lot more but needed the money now.

He said he knew it was worth more but needed the money
I had sent the thief $1,814 using Money Gram at Wal Mart after I
received the Meteorite in the mail on 12/24/2012

Without the help of the  I.M.C.A. International Meteorite Collectors Association.
recovery of this meteorite may not have been possible.

A stressful experience

Carl Agee holding the recovered meteorite

The story does have a happy ending, the woman in the picture
is holding a very rare 45 gram piece of a Meteorite - Called  Norton County
This was given to me by the University of New Mexico to help compensate for my loss
It was very nice of the University to have done this
and the U.N.M did get their meteorite back in one piece.

Yes, the thief is still at large

The interesting thing is, meteorites like this were
selling on e-bay at these prices between 2000 to 2004, big pieces
at .20 cents a gram (1000 grams = 2.2 lb's) was not unheard of at that time,I thought it
may have been collected back then, because there was a lot being sold at that time.
My records show the cheapest I have ever paid was .11 cents per gram, yes thats right.

You can buy any meteorite on e-bay at a good price if you are patient enough or you
can go to the Meteorite Capital of the World in Tucson Arizona every February to buy them.

If you go to Tucson, you can look thru those boxes of the Moroccan Meteorite Dealers and
buy an affordable meteorite found by the desert nomads in the Sahara Desert.
It is possible you may find a very rare Planetary Meteorite from the Moon, Mars or Mercury.
